Year of the Dragon symbol2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon. The New Year brings worldwide joy with parties, countdowns, and diverse traditions. The Lunar New Year holds deep cultural significance, marked by family reunions, ancestral respect, and spring's arrival. February 10th ushers in a year linked to growth and renewal, symbolized by the powerful wooden dragon which represents prosperity and good luck. Parent volunteers have created a dragon craft that students will work on during library classes all week. Happy Lunar New Year!

Orchard News: 

Collaborative Art Project for our AUCTION year!

We need your help to create a stunning masterpiece for our Rodeo Auction! Under the guidance of Orchard mom and artist Abigail Birnbaum, the entire student body will create a collaborative art project to be showcased and auctioned off at the Rodeo on 4/27/24! Lend a hand by contributing your time during your child's class on 3/19 and 3/20. Together we can make this art project a success. Sign up for one or more spots  - coverage is needed for ALL sessions.

Orchard’s Got Talent!

Don’t forget to fill out the google form by Thursday. Students should be prepared to come to three rehearsals and the stage performance. All the information you need to know can be found on the Orchard’s Got Talent Information Sheet. Can you believe the Reading Marathon is already half over?! There is no school on Monday and Tuesday next week so make sure to stock up on books for the long weekend! Need age-appropriate reading recommendations? The library’s NoveList Plus service is funded in part by your donations to Reading Marathon - simply log in with your library card number for suggestions, including books that celebrate diversity in honor of Black History Month. Students light up with excitement as they showcase their imaginative experiments. we invite you to join us for an unforgettable day of learning, fun, and scientific exploration on 2/29 at 6:30 pm. No project is too small and we hope to see everyone get involved!! Every child who participates will earn a homework pass! We can't wait to see your amazing projects! Please sign up before 2/27.

TIC TOC presents the Kate Sasso Memorial Art Contest. This year’s theme “Me in the World” is open to all 5th graders. Submission deadline is 2/29. Drop-off details and submission requirements can also be found at www.tictoc.org.

Many of you are familiar with the Box Tops program, but did you know how simple the program is? Box Tops is a digital fundraising option that helps raise money for Orchard HSA throughout the entire year! There is also a collection envelope in the main office. 100 days of laughter, learning, and growth fly by! On Thursday, we reach the 100th day of school! This marks an important day for our youngest learners as they practice counting and making sets of 100.  

As the final lap of the school year comes into sight, it is time to recharge, refocus, and finish the school year with fresh eyes and 100-day-smarter minds!

Speaking of smart - our students have completed another unit in Spanish. Our Spanish speakers are learning to identify, read, and write numbers from 0-100. Practice along with them and learn to count to twenty in español.

All acts will be performed in person on the Orchard Stage on 3/15. Students who are inclined to showcase their talents should be prepared to come to three rehearsals and the stage performance. New York Times Best-Selling Author, Elise Broach is coming to Orchard on March 1st to visit with our 3rd through 5th graders. Autographed copies of her books are available for purchase.  Paying by cash or check? Fill out this form and return it with payment to the main office in an envelope marked for Orchard HSA. (checks payable to Orchard HSA, indicate “Broach Author Visit” along with student name and teacher in memo). Paying by credit card? Fill out this electronic form. The firm deadline to pre-order books is 2/12.

February is Reading Marathon Month! Don’t forget to have students set a personal reading goal & track their reading all month. The Ridgewood Public Library has lots of exciting programs happening throughout February.  Programs include science experiments, storytimes, yoga & an author visit with Gregory Allen on 2/20.  All events take place at the Ridgewood Public Library (registration required). Lotus FlowerWellness Week is taking root at Orchard School! From January 29th through February 2nd our students will trade PE for calming yoga poses all week, thanks to sponsorship from Federated HSA. Kick off the Reading Marathon by attending one of these fun events. Pre-k and up students can sing & dance with Miss Jolie on Thurs., Feb. 1 and students ages 8 and up can enjoy a Mr. Lemoncello-themed game day on Fri., Feb. 2. Wizards Doubleheader

Mark your calendars! Federated HSA presents a doubleheader extravaganza featuring the Orchard Wizards and your teachers! Cheer on Mrs. Redfern & Mrs. DeSantis in the 2 pm game, then catch Ms. Woods, Ms. Madison, and Nurse Caruso at 6 pm. Mrs. Ferreri is playing in both games! Games are played at RHS, on Feb. 25th. Tickets fly out, so mark Jan 30th, 7 pm to grab your $25 tickets, max 6 per purchase.  The sales link will be shared in the January 30th eNews as well as the HSA newsletter and Groupspot. Long Range Planning Meeting

Join us at the meeting tonight in the Orchard Library! The Long Range Planning Team is a committee that meets biennially before the Orchard Auction. The LRPT will help shape the topics or areas of focus for auction fundraising, preparing a full ballot of ideas to be voted on by the Orchard community. While the whole school community will vote on the priority order of our projects, it is the members of the LRPT who shape the options for vote. Find out what was discussed at the first meeting. Orchard Auction LogoIt’s an Auction Year! 

HOWDY ORCHARD! The Orchard HSA invites you to dust off your boots and join us for a night in the Wild West! So...mark your calendars, buy your tickets, and book your babysitters! The biennial auction will be held on 4/27 at The Woman's Club of Ridgewood from 7-11 pm. Join us ($100 per person) for an evening of live & silent auctions, raffles, 50/50, live music & dancing, mechanical bull rides, games, passed appetizers, BBQ dinner, beverages, and more!!  We need your help to raise money to support our incredible school, teachers, staff, and students and to continue to build our amazing community while having fun! Tickets on sale through 4/13. Purchase tickets through the online Cheddar Up portal or via cash/check to the main office (checks made out to Orchard HSA - "Auction 2024 Tickets" in notes and RSVP to [email protected]).

SEPAG (The Ridgewood Special Ed Parent Advisory Group)

The Ridgewood Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) is a state-mandated, district-wide organization that exists to improve special ed in Ridgewood by fostering effective communication with the district; supporting and educating families, and providing enrichment to special ed students.
