Orchard School wishes all our families a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! Check out this top 10 list of ideas on ways to spend a non-traditional turkey day with your family safely and locally.

Want to give back to a family in need this Holiday season? Orchard is teaming up with Table to Table to aid the 1 in 7 children who do not know where their next meal is coming from. Since COVID-19, the number of people who are food insecure has increased by 18.5%. Every $1 donated provides 10 meals. With your help this holiday season, thousands of hungry families in northern NJ will be fed. Please use the following link to donate: www.mightycause.com/team/z0029f

Please Note: Tomorrow is a true minimum day - there will be no remote classes in the afternoon.

A gentle reminder if you must travel this holiday weekend; please check the travel advisory from state to state.  In case you missed it, this informative letter from the superintendent explains what it means now that the state of New Jersey is in the orange zone. Please stay well and be safe!

*** Additionally, please note that our hybrid model alternates between in-school and at-home learning days. If your child is absent for an extended time, each day they can attend one live stream period, afternoon meets, and can follow up on classwork or practice if there is no other assignment. We are unable to supply additional work in these circumstances. As we respect family choices and needs, we ask that you respect our model and the teacher’s need to attend to our in-person learners.

November 3, 2020

Happy November!  We are continuing to focus on the silver linings during this historic school year. Hearing your children's laughter and seeing them learn in person and online is one very special reminder of how we are making lemonade out of lemons. Let’s remember to keep doing our part as the long weekend approaches and Thanksgiving is upon us. We must continue to be diligent about washing hands, staying six feet apart, wearing a mask and following the CDC guidelines. Please read this informative travel and health reminder from the nurse.

Consider joining a discussion about managing school-related stress during the Covid-19 pandemic. On November, 9th, a licensed psychologist and parent who specializes in child and adolescent psychology is conducting a webinar that should not be missed.  Register here.

October 27, 2020

Now that we are entering cold & flu season, as well as being extra cautious regarding any symptoms, we realize your child may be absent from school on a more frequent basis than in a typical year. Please note that our model is not currently set up to provide lessons when students are home even if they are not feeling sick. Your child can read, review math work, free write or just take the day to rest up. Should your child end up being out for an extenuated time period, his/her teacher will work with you on how to complete the schoolwork.

When calling your child in sick, please call the absence/attendance line as usual (201)670-2730 ext.1. Please be specific; do not use vague terms, such as, "isn't feeling well." Leave the student's name, spelling of last name, grade, teacher, date and specific reason for absence. Tell us if your child is experiencing a stomach ache, sore throat, coughing, etc. Also, if you are emailing the teacher about an absence, please copy the school nurse, Mrs. Horton: chorton@ridgewood.k12.nj.us.

As you may or may not know, New Jersey has been declared a yellow zone by the CDC. As a result, health regulations for your children to return to school after an absence has changed. Please read this informative letter from the nurse to get the facts.

This year, as a way to support our parents, we will be highlighting different areas of our district that serve as a resource. One of those is our relationship with CarePlus. This is a presentation from Kathy Elleo, LCSW, Care Plus In-District clinician. This presentation for parents provides insight into best practices and strategies for virtual learning.
