“Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.”

Health Office Update:

Please visit the Covid dashboard located on the Ridgewood School homepage or click this link  to report all new cases for students, parents and siblings not in school.

In addition, please remember to call the absence line and notify the school nurse.

Keep your child home and get them tested as soon as possible if they are exhibiting any symptoms.

Do not send your child to school if you are awaiting test results. We realize test results have taken longer to come back with the volume of testing, however it is important to have evidence of a negative test before returning to school.

We have a limited supply of emergency masks in the health office. We ask that you send your child to school with one or two backup masks in the backpack.

These disposable face masks are a huge hit with the students.

Thank you for your understanding.

‘Tis the season for giving…

Thank you Orchard School for raising $2,220.25 during the Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch fundraiser. We raised enough money to provide 20,000 meals!

And that’s not all! With all the coins collected during the holiday change drive, Orchard students helped purchase $1,026 worth of gift cards for local families in need this holiday season! Nice job Orchard!!!

And speaking of thanks…the Orchard staff is overwhelmed with gratitude for the delicious HSA holiday lunch set in a beautiful winter wonderland setting carefully created by Georgie Giancamilli and Amy Gill.  Also, a special thank you to the parents in the classrooms, the students who made heartfelt thank you notes, the crew who helped with the set up and take down of the room and everyone who contributed to the cost of the event. Your kindness and appreciation means so much, especially during the holiday season.

Happy Hanukkah to everyone who celebrates! Have you ever wondered why this Jewish holiday, also known as the Festival of Lights, is spelled in so many ways? Unlike translation, it comes down to transliteration. Hanukkah and Chanukah are the two versions that are most widely used and accepted. No matter how you spell it, Hanukkah started last Sunday and lasts for eight days.

A Message from the DEI Committee

National Native American Heritage Day (November 26th), recognized the day after Thanksgiving, honors the American indigenous population.  This day celebrates the vibrant cultures, traditions and heritages while recognizing the many contributions Native Americans have made to our nation.

Mrs. LaBarr, our favorite librarian, shares this read-aloud The Legend of the Cape May Diamond by Trinka Hakes Noble and illustrated by E.B. Lewis, to acknowledge this day.  Please share with your children and learn about the Native American history that is so close to home.  The next time you head to Cape May, you will know more about these precious stones that you find on the beach.

Mrs. LaBarr also read, Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard and illustrated by Juana Marinez-Neal to our 5th graders. Fry bread is a flatbread that is fried in oil, shortening or lard. Several tribes have their own variation of fry bread. Carina Guerrero shares Maillard's recipe https://www.wevideo.com/view/2460161334

Fun Fact:
Merriam-Webster added 455 new words to the dictionary last month. Now, it includes abbreviations like TBH (to be honest) and FTW (for the win). It also includes pandemic-related terms like long COVID and super spreader. Merriam-Webster says language never stops evolving, so the dictionary never stops expanding. This latest list brings together new and familiar words that have established themselves in everyday life.
